Many cultures use steam baths to purify and restore balance to the body, mind, and spirit, and Mexico’s temazcal reflects a blend of Mesoamerican traditions. A temazcal is a small, enclosed structure—either dome-shaped or rectangular—heated with stones, where water infused with medicinal plants creates healing steam. On this trip, we will explore temazcales in small groups, experiencing both their ceremonial and medicinal uses.
